About Myself

Welcome to my blog. I am currently a junior at Northern Michigan University as an elementary education student with an emphasis in math and language arts. I am from a small town in central Wisconsin in which the cows outnumber people 3:1 and the entire town comes to watch every high school football game. I am very close with my family which consists of my parents, older brother, and younger sister. Despite both of my parents medical careers, I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since childhood. This program so far is everything I have dreamed of and more from the personal support, professional guidance, and real life classroom participation.

My belief is that teaching is guiding hand to the future. It is up to us to lead the future CEOs, policemen, welders, scientists, and all others to chase their dreams and never give up. Teachers are the people holding the toolbox of skills that students need to succeed in whatever future they choose for themselves. As Alexander K Trenfor elegantly states, "The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don't tell you what to see." Teachers stare down mountains and turn them into opportunistic adventures rather than intimidating challenges. To overcome such mountains, it takes one step forward at a time. I try to apply this ideology to every aspect of my life.

Now that I have covered some of my personal philosophies, some personal details might be in order. The most life-changing event in my life was a trip to Ghana for a friend's wedding (long story). While visiting we traveled around the country to sit on crocodiles in Paga; get up close and personal with elephants and warthogs; visit schools in the "witch's village"; and climb the canopies of Kakum. It is actually through this trip that I gained my deep appreciation for family, different cultures, and cheese. I am also an avid participant in the Dirty Girl Mud Run which is a 5K course for breast and ovarian cancer awareness. Not only is it fun to slide down inflatable obstacles into pits of mud, its very satisfying to finish knowing that you helped others while improving your own health. In my free time I enjoy participating in intramural basketball, working out, reading, and going to the movies. My favorites by far are "Firefly Lane" by Kristin Hannah and "Grease". I am also a devout believer that almost any food tastes better deep fried such as chicken, Twinkies, Oreo's, cheese curds, corn dogs, and funnel cakes. Due to this belief, fair food is my guilty pleasure. Until my next post, stay safe, keep strong, and smile on.
